Rasont India at sknatural is the extract of "zarishk". This plant is Berberis aristata DC. or B. lycium Royle. It belongs to family "Berberidaceae". Generally people use its fruit, bark, flower. Its temperament is warm and dry in second order.

\nNative to mountain slopes in the northwestern part of the Indian Subcontinent, Berberis lycium, known as the Indian lycium, Indian barberry, or boxthorn barberry, is a flowering plant species. Its fruit, called kasmal, is edible and widely consumed, whether fresh, cooked, or preserved.

\nThe root (and stem) of the plant yields an extract called 'rasaut,' frequently used as a remedy in ophthalmia and stomach disorders. The herb, containing berberine, has a bitter taste and serves best as a febrifuge against bilious fevers, also aiding digestion and acting as an aperient. It particularly proves useful against ague and remittent fevers.

\nMoreover, the tincture has value in treating periodic neuralgia and enlargements of the liver and spleen. Physicians recommend it for fevers accompanied by bilious symptoms and diarrhoea. Rasaut, when combined with honey, effectively treats oriental sores and bleeding piles, acting as a wash for piles and in jaundice. Additionally, it benefits chronic syphilitic and scrofulous cachexia, chronic skin diseases, especially of the scaly type, and aids in convalescence from malarial and other fevers.

\nRepeated doses of rasont India do not induce depression of the heart or deafness. Hence, in attacks of bilious fevers, it holds an advantage over cinchona (and quinine). Further, the fruit (Kashmal) commonly features as an ingredient in bakery items.
