Lakh Dana at sknatural is resinous substance rendered by Laccifer lacca Kerr., Tachardia lacca Kerr. Generally, the resin is astringent and alterative and is a tonic for liver, stomach and intestines and is useful in liver disorders like jaundice and oedema. Also reduces fat in adipose persons. Indeed, it is warm in second and dry in third order. Insects known as Laccifer lacca (Carteria lacca) secrete a resinous substance characterized by its orange-red color on the twigs of trees like Banyan, Croton, Acacia, and Ficus. After removal from the twigs, lac undergoes a process of melting and pouring in hot water or cooling. Hence, resulting in the formation of clear lac on the surface, known as shellac or shell lac (Laakh Maghsul). At last, people finely powder this shellac and utilize it in traditional medicine.

Locally, shellac acts as a stimulating application for indolent, scrofulous, and scorbutic ulcers. Therefore, medicated oils incorporate a decoction of shellac, providing a restorative and stimulant tonic for local application. Additionally, a mixture of powdered shellac with honey administers relief for haematemesis. It effectively treats various conditions such as dropsies, jaundice, cough, and asthma. Moreover, it functions as a desiccative resolvent to reduce fat in adipose individuals. Lac serves as a beneficial application for caries and diseased teeth. A medicated oil, prepared with a decoction of shellac in Sesamum oil and whey, along with a general tonic of medicinal herbs, is applied over the chest in remittent fevers accompanied by cough and dyspnoea, as well as in lumbago, myalgia, epilepsy, and hysteria.
